The things that move a deck railing quote
- Footage. The selected railing system is priced by linear foot after we know the real runs.
- Old railing removal. $5/linear ft, disposal included.
- Corners, stairs, and layout. Wrap-around decks and stair sections need more posts, cuts, and fabrication than the same footage in a straight line.
- Height. Decks above 5'11" need 42-inch guards instead of 36-inch — more material, and usually harder access.
- Structure. Solid rim joists anchor fast; soft wood needs reinforcement before any railing should bolt to it.
Code background is in the Ontario railing code guide. Short runs can average higher per foot because measuring, setup, and anchoring do not disappear on a small deck.
Choosing the system
Budget first: aluminum picket. View first: glass — framed for value, frameless for the cleanest look. The honest trade-offs live in glass vs aluminum railings and framed vs frameless glass. Or short-circuit the research: text us photos of the deck and we'll send numbers for the systems that fit.

Deck railing cost questions
How much does a deck railing cost per foot in Toronto?
Installed rates: aluminum picket from $85/linear ft, framed glass from $120, and frameless glass from $140. Add old railing removal if it applies, or use the estimator for an instant range.
How many linear feet is a typical deck?
Measure the sides that need a guard, skip the house side. A 12×16 deck with stairs usually needs 30–40 linear feet. A tape measure and two minutes beats guessing.
Does the railing price include the deck structure?
No — these are railing prices. If your deck's rim joists are too soft to anchor into, that's carpentry we'll flag during the measure rather than bolt into bad wood.
Why do quotes vary so much between contractors?
Different systems, different glass thickness, included vs excluded removal, and whether the price is installed or materials-only. Compare installed prices for the same system and the spread shrinks. Ours are published, so you can hold us to them.
When is the cheapest time to do a deck railing?
Shoulder seasons — early spring and late fall — usually have the most schedule room. Summer books fastest. The price doesn't change; the wait does.
